South West accountancy firm Albert Goodman is to expand its audit offering in Bristol after taking on Neil Johnston as an audit partner.

Albert Goodman described the appointment as a significant hire for its growing Bristol office while also further enhancing its provision of expert services to businesses and owners across the region.

University of Bristol alumni, Neil, pictured, has joined Albert Goodman from RSM UK, where he worked for just over two-and-a-half years as a director. Prior to that spent more than seven years as a senior manager with EY.

Over the course of his career he has developed extensive audit, accountancy and business advisory skills, working with a range of companies and organisations.

In its last financial year Taunton-headquartered Albert Goodman, which also has offices in Yeovil, Weymouth and Weston-super, grew its audit team by 25%.

That helped contribute to a 17% increase in revenue to £21.4m for the 158-year-old, firm.

Neil said: “Albert Goodman has earnt its reputation as an accountancy firm that provides an outstanding level of service for its clients across the breadth of the region.

“In equal measure, the firm’s culture and its teams of incredibly talented people, were a huge draw for me.

“Having been lucky enough to call Bristol my home for well over a decade now, I’m relishing the opportunity to bring my knowledge of the local market to the table, and helping to drive growth within my specialist area of the business.”

Albert Goodman managing partner Iain McVicar added: “We’re thrilled to be able to welcome Neil into the fold as a key member of our partnership and Bristol team.

“Nurturing talent is a fundamental driver for us across our network of offices. Neil has excelled in his career to-date, and we’re excited to see where his role at Albert Goodman will take him.”

Albert Goodman relocated its Bristol base from a small hub in Westbury-on-Trym to a 3,000 sq ft office on King Street in May last year.

The firm, which also has offices in Yeovil, Weymouth and Weston-super-Mare, has 21 partners and more than 300 staff who work across a range of specialisms spanning audit & accounts and business support services to litigation support, payroll bureau and VAT services.
