A housebuilding expert with nearly 20 years’ industry experience has joined Bristol-based Barratt David Wilson Homes South West as its new head of construction.
Mark Hughes, pictured, started his career as a trainee with Linden Homes (now Vistry) and honed his skills at some of the most respected names in the industry including Redrow Homes, McCarthy and Stone, David Wilson Homes Southern and St Modwen Homes.
He joins David Wilson from Crest Nicholson, where he spent 15 months as build manager.
As part of his new role he will be responsible for driving construction performance and build and quality targets at Barratt David Wilson Homes’ sites across South Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
He will also play a pivotal role in developing the company’s new house type range, which will include enhanced fabric, efficient services, heat recovery systems and solar panels where required to comply with new Part L Building Regulations setting new standards for new homes’ energy performance and carbon emissions.
Mark said: “The housebuilding sector is marked by many opportunities. The introduction of Part L holds great promise as it will reduce carbon emissions, lower energy costs for consumers and promote environmental sustainability, building on our already proven track record of delivering energy-efficient homes that can help reduce residents’ bills while being kinder to the planet.
“The chance to work in an organisation with the prestige and history of Barratt David Wilson Homes was an opportunity too good to turn down.
“Drawing from my previous experience, I can bring a wealth of construction knowledge and a keenness to implement new practices that allow the safe, quality delivery of ‘green’ homes that we can all be proud of. I’m also committed to promote the many benefits of housebuilding, to nurture and inspire the next generation of construction industry talent.”
Barratt David Wilson Homes South West managing director Ralph Hawkins said Mark boasted an impressive track record.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge to our team and his approach to construction management and commitment to quality and innovation align with our core values that make him a great fit for this role,” he added.
Barratt David Wilson Homes is part of the Barratt Developments group.
