Bristol-based Trunki, the pioneering firm behind the child’s ride-on suitcase, has been announced as a finalist in the Santander Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year category of the National Business Awards.

Trunki was launched by designer Rob Law, pictured right, who famously was rejected when he appeared on Dragons’ Den in 2006.

Today it designs and distributes a revolutionary range of children's products straddling the nursery, luggage, toy, gift and outdoor markets as well as pioneering its own children's travel category.

As a result, its products do not have any direct competition across multiple markets. In a boost to British manufacturing, it has also recently brought back its production from China to Devon.

Stephen Dury, Santander Corporate Banking’s director of strategy and market development, and member of the shortlist panel, said: “Through continued product innovation and diversification, and a focus on responsible and ethical manufacturing, it is clear that Trunki has established an excellent platform for long term sustainable growth in the UK and overseas.

“The quality of businesses in this year’s Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year category has been overwhelming. All the entries have demonstrated strong financial performance, ability to deliver results through dedicated and highly trained staff and a clear vision to be the best in their fields.

“I have been really impressed with the calibre of businesses we’ve seen and I wish them all the best of luck in the next stages of the awards.”
