A major warehouse development at Severnside near Bristol, which could create up to 500 jobs, has received planning consent.
The 38,000 sq m centre – roughly the size of nine football pitches – is made up of two storage and distribution units which will be built on land at the rear of Tesco’s new 500,000 sq ft distribution unit close to the M49.
Forming part of the new Westgate Distribution Park scheme, it is also the first development to be brought forward in the recently-identified Severnside Enterprise Area – one of the job-creating projects launched by the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership.
Planning permission was obtained from South Gloucestershire Council for the scheme by Barton Willmore, the UK’s biggest independent planning and design consultancy.
The 296-acre Westgate Distribution Park scheme is being marketed as the region’s premier logistics location. It is being developed by Harrow Estates, a subsidiary of Redrow Homes, and Cheltenham-based developer Robert Hitchins.
Tenants for the two new units have not yet been confirmed.
Simon Prescott, partner in Barton Willmore’s Bristol office, said: “This planning permission is an important step in creating new jobs for Bristol and is a statement of intent from local authorities about the potential of the new Severnside Enterprise Area.”
