Business support for Bristol’s attempt to become Europe’s Green Capital in 2014 is still crucial while the jury continues its deliberations, the group behind the bid has said.
With just over two weeks to go until the winner is declared, the Bristol Green Capital Partnership wants to build on the 3,500-plus firms, organisations, schools and individuals who have so far backed the bid by signing up at www.bristolgreencapital.org/support.
Nearly a third of these pledges have come from businesses with a further 20% from the city’s schools and universities.
The seven-person delegation that presented Bristol’s case to the European Commission panel in Brussels last Friday said judges were impressed by this show of support for the city’s bid.
They are asking any business or individual who backs the bid but hasn’t yet pledged their support to do so at website – and also to spread the word via email, Twitter and Facebook.
Bristol Green Capital Partnership chair Professor Martin Bigg said: “We gave the best presentation we possibly could in Brussels and the feedback from the jury was very positive.
“They were impressed with the enthusiasm in Bristol, the public support and involvement of so many organisations and individuals – it really is a bid for the whole city, not just for the city council or the Green Capital Partnership.
“A big thank you to the 3,500 people who have already backed our bid, and if you haven’t, please sign up and show your support before the decision on June 29.”
That announcement will be made at a ceremony in this year’s Green Capital Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain. Bristol is competing against Copenhagen and Frankfurt for the 2014 title.
Bristol Business News was among the first organisations to pledge its support for Bristol’s bid.
