Hydro International, the Clevedon-based water industry specialist, has secured its largest-ever order for its pioneering grit removal system. The contract, won by Hydro’s US wastewater division for a Canadian treatment plant, is worth Cdn$4m (£2.5m).

Hydro, which makes environmentally sustainable and innovative products for the control and treatment of water, is supplying an integrated system made up of its own proprietary vortex separation products. It will remove grit from water flowing into the municipal wastewater treatment works – one of three serving more than a million people in the city of Calgary. The system is scheduled to begin operation in 2014.

Hydro chief executive Steve Hides said: “Hydro is a market leader in advanced grit removal technologies and we are very pleased to have secured such a significant order for our innovative and sustainable solutions, based on our proprietary non-mechanical vortex technologies.

“We attribute our on-going success in the US wastewater market to the strength of our product offering to customers and the exceptional quality of our network of independent wastewater sales representatives.”

He said the group was now working on a number of other initiatives which will continue to drive growth.

As well as its headquarters in Clevedon, Hydro has offices in Ely, Cambridgeshire, and in the US in Portland, Maine and Hillsboro, Oregon.

It also has a growing presence in Ireland, Egypt, Middle East, Mexico, the EU, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
