Bristol Airport’s terminal building will be filled with the sights and sounds of Flamenco dancers and samba rhythms tomorrow when a flashmob arrives to greet a special passenger off a flight from Glasgow.
Felipe de Algeciras, one of the UK’s top Flamenco teachers, is arriving to take part in a dance event at Toto’s wine bar in the city staged by dance and arts group Tribe of Doris.
He is expecting to be greeted by a Doris team member and whisked off to the bar. But instead, waiting for him will be a flashmob of six African Sambista drummers, 10 dancers in gypsy and Flamenco dresses and dancers in team outfits.
A group of six children aged between three and nine will form part of his dancing entourage.
The flashmob, which has been authorized by the airport, will present short choreographed sets and a ‘free style’ dance session.
Felipe is arriving from Glasgow having rescheduled his plans, making a diversion to Bristol to be present at the Doris event An Olympic Affair at Toto’s. He is on route Ireland and leaves early Sunday morning.
Felipe, now based in Spain, is one of the leading performers and teachers of Flamenco and has danced at Sadlers Wells, the House of Commons and appeared with the English National Opera.
His powerful foot work can be heard throughout the film The Mask of Zorro. Felipe is a Doris afficianado and will be presenting the showcase at 5pm, teaching a workshop and putting on a solo performance later that evening.
This special Doris flashmob takes place at the airport with the generous support of Jaqui Mills PR manager and airport staff.
