Construction group Willmott Dixon has appointed innovation and technology expert Nick Buckland as a consultant to further expand its Bristol-based science and technology sector business.
Nick, who chairs CFMS, the Bristol-based simulation and modelling specialist, worked in the IT sector for more than 20 years but made a career change to broaden his activities, mainly within the technology arena.
He was appointed OBE in the 2009 New Year Honours List for services to innovation and technology.
He is a former board member of the South West of England Regional Development Agency and of the Technology Strategy Board and a past chairman of Tamar Science Park.
He is also Pro-Chancellor of Plymouth University and until recently was chair of its governors.
Nick said: “Willmott Dixon has established itself as a key player, with an excellent reputation, in this important sector and I am looking forward to helping it expand its activities.”
Willmott Dixon already has a strong reputation in the science sector having completed leading-edge developments such as The Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information at the University of Bristol; the first buildings at Bristol & Bath Science Park and research space for the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The firm’s science & technology sector manager Lynne Wellington said: “Nick will be working with us regionally and nationally as we build our portfolio of technology related projects.
"Each of these buildings is unique, demanding a mix of specialist construction knowledge and detailed understanding of the challenges presented.
"As one of the most respected figures in the sector, Nick’s special expertise will enable us to offer a unique blend of skills to our clients.”
