A support worker at a unique charity dedicated to helping people with brain tumours is being sponsored by the Bristol office of national law firm Clarke Willmott.
The firm has teamed up with Thornbury-based Brain Tumour Support to help Trish Moroney in her role in the geographical areas where the charity does not yet have a dedicated support worker.
Clarke Willmott will sponsor a Trish for the next 12 months. Currently support workers cover most areas from Manchester to the tip of Cornwall so Trish’s role means even more people will be supported across the country.
Brain Tumour Support is unique in providing dedicated support for anyone affected by any type of brain tumour, at any point from diagnosis and for as long as support is needed.
That is not just for the patients themselves but also families, carers and loved ones who are dealing day-to-day with the impact of a brain tumour.
The charity provides much needed specialist, tailored services through one-to-one and group support, as well as online and phone support and specialist counselling.
Its head of support Rosemary Wormington said the partnership significant.
“Clarke Willmott has been very supportive of our work over the past three years and we are hugely grateful to see this relationship develop to enable the funding of this crucial role,” she said.
“People frequently tell us that one of the worst parts of being diagnosed with a brain tumour is the isolation they experience as a result.
“So for patients and families to know that, wherever they are in the country, they can connect with a specialist support worker is vital. The difference it will make to our client group is immeasurable.”
Clarke Willmott’s clinical negligence team specialises in brain injury cases as well as dealing with delayed cancer diagnosis, orthopaedic mismanagement, surgical error, gynaecological injuries and mistakes arising from systemic failures.
Clinical negligence partner Marguarita Tyne said: “As a group with a particular interest in working with individuals with brain injuries this is a natural extension of that interest beyond our legal work.
“We very much hope that the excellent work that the charity engages in every day will be available to even more individuals and families in need of that support.
“We look forward to building on our working relationship with Brain Tumour Support and contributing to the practical help on offer to their clients.”
As well as its Bristol office, Clarke Willmott also has bases in Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton and Taunton.
