One hundred businesswomen from across Bristol are meeting this morning to celebrate their contribution to the life and wealth of the city.
The gathering at the the Avon Gorge Hotel, Clifton, is one of a number of similar events staged across the globe as part of International Women’s Day.
All these meetings are on, or near, bridges – hence the Bristol 100 group assembling at a hotel with the Clifton Suspension Bridge as its backdrop.
The Join Me On The Bridge campaign showcases the impact of women in business in their locality as well as reaching out to enterprising women in poorer and more dangerous cities around the world whose work is vital to rebuilding peaceful, happy and prosperous communities.
Ahead of this morning event, organiser Joni Farthing, who also runs the Athena Network connecting and supporting women in business in Bristol, said: “Women are great bridge builders in damaged communities.
“We want to celebrate our success here in beautiful Bristol and we want to help women elsewhere have similar success.
“So we’ll be collecting on the day towards a microloan and training for a woman wanting to start an enterprise in an area of poverty or conflict.
“Here we have 100 Bristol women who will be starting their day together before heading off to run businesses across the city.”

The campaign is run by Women for Women International which has helped more than a third of a million women in desperate circumstances gain a livelihood for themselves and their families.
