Bristol architects Childs+Sulzmann, the practice behind many iconic Bristol buildings including the Arnolfini, Engine Shed and Watershed, is on target for a 25% increase in turnover and headcount this year as it marks its 25th anniversary.

The firm, which specialises in innovative projects in the hotel, leisure, creative re-use and housing sectors, has already grown its workforce to 16 this year and is on course to have 20 employees by the end of the year.

It has also doubled its turnover in the past two years and is now looking at further, sustainable growth across its offices in Bristol and Cardiff with a number of new projects.

Founding director, Nick Childs, pictured below, said: “We have grown in size and reputation substantially since our early days and now serve a national client portfolio.

“We have developed a reputation for good design, high levels of personal service and expertise in delivering creative solutions in commercially and physically challenging spaces.

“The quality of the work we win means we can attract the best people who in turn deliver the best work. This is at the heart of our success to date.”

Other recent high-profile projects have including cutting-edge technical facilities for Dyson and Rolls-Royce and the development of Bulstrode Park Hotel, an exclusive luxury five-star country estate hotel development in Buckinghamshire, which will be one of the most expensive hotels outside London.

Childs+Sulzmann won the work due to its experience of developing country house hotels over 25 years, including Thornbury Castle.

The practice, which also designed Pero’s Bridge in Bristol, has projects worth around £90m on its books including the current expansion of Bristol Cathedral Choir School.
