Backing Bristol’s Green Investment Bank bid: Dr Andrew Garrad

We have offices in 22 countries and our headquarters sit firmly in Bristol. To me, that says it all. Bristol, first and foremost, truly is a lovely place to live and work. People stay here. We find it easy to recruit talent in to our business and retain it. The level of available and accessible talent is high, including those produced by the fantastic universities that we have on our doorstep and across the South West.

Communications links are excellent. Bristol’s fortunate natural location means that it benefits from good connections both to London and to the wind farming areas of the UK.

A headquarters in Bristol also makes doing business in other countries simple. Bristol Airport is so accessible and easy to navigate through quickly. I try to avoid Heathrow at all costs.

The Green Investment Bank belongs in Bristol. We’re already the hub of professional advice in this sector and we’re therefore home to a ready-made talent pool of professional services and environmental organisations. This isn’t new for those of us already working here – the bank would benefit from the foundations already in place here in Bristol.

Dr Andrew Garrad, chairman, GL Garrad Hassan, the worlds leading renewable energy consultancy.
