TV legend Sir David Attenborough will take part in an ‘in conversation’ session with friend, colleague and BBC Natural History Unit creative director Mike Gunton next month to help raise funds for concert venue St George’s Bristol’s music charity.
The concert hall runs an active education programme, as well as attracting world-class artists. This spring it will launch as a creative space for music and ideas, with a new café bar, multi-purpose spaces and exhibitions.
Proceeds from the April 3 event with Sir David, pictured, which is supported by Bristol-based ethical bank Triodos, will help fund the music charity and its work.
The audience can expect a wide-ranging discussion featuring some of Sir David’s recent TV adventures – from exploring the life of prehistoric sea dragons to the perils of plastic in our oceans.
Tickets for the event were sold out within hours of going on general sale. St George’s has a waiting list and Triodos is running a competition to win two pairs of tickets.
‘Sir David Attenborough In Conversation’ is one of a number of fundraising activities staged by St George’s, which generate around a third of the charity’s income.
St George’s head of development Verity Slater said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Sir David back to St George’s. As an independent charity, we have a long history of creating diverse events in and beyond the building.
“We rely on the generosity of our supporters to continue this work, and it’s wonderful to count Mike and Sir David in this group, both of whom are contributing their time for free.”
Sir David, who is 2013 was awarded Bristol’s highest honour – the freedom of the city – has spoken in the main hall of St George’s, a Georgian Grade II listed building before. He is well known for his passion and support for the arts.
