Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Mark Payne, general manager of The Bristol Hotel, a member of the Doyle Collection, answers our 10 questions.
What was the LAST: 
Film you watched? Hidden Figures. I think it’s the best movie I have seen this year. A biographical drama set in the early 1960s, it’s an uplifting story about black female mathematicians at NASA and the issues and prejudice they overcame to help the Americans compete in the space race at the time.
Book you read? 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B Peterson. Most people only heard of him recently, following his topical interview with Cathy Newman on Channel Four and all the publicity that ensued after that, but I have been following his YouTube/podcasts for a couple of years now.
Music you bought/downloaded? I downloaded/updated the Apple Rock playlist over the weekend.
Concert or play you went to? I went to see Aladdin over Christmas with my four-year-old daughter! I will go to see Wicked at the Bristol Hippodrome before it closes this month.
Sporting event you attended? I was at both of Bristol City’s home games against the Manchester clubs. It was a terrific run for them to reach the semi-finals.
Holiday you went on? Cork, Ireland, which is home. I went back over the Christmas break for a week to see family (whether it can be classed as a holiday is very debatable!)
Restaurant you ate in? BOX-E at Cargo 1 at Wapping Wharf in Bristol. Terrific food and service, and most consistent restaurant I have eaten in for a long while, always top class.
Thing that annoyed you? Today did not get off to such a great start as I had to de-ice the windscreen. I appreciate it is hardly life changing but at -2 degrees C it was certainly annoying.
Thing that made you laugh out loud? Most evenings are full of laugh-out-loud moments with a four year old and a two year old talking about their days.
Piece of good advice you were given? For the gym – ‘pain is failure leaving the body. For work – ‘today you’re cock of the walk, tomorrow a feather duster’.
