Fast-growing human resources firm 3103 HR has appointed its first non-executive director in the shape of experienced management consultant and business coach Myles Mayne.

His latest appointment comes as the Bristol-based firm moves towards becoming a nationwide business through the establishment of a hub of regionally-based associates and forms part of a growth plan which could ultimately see up to 150 associates coming on board over the next 18 months.

A director at Adler International Learning UK and founder of the Professional Coaching Alliance, Myles Mayne was European marketing director at Fuji Bank Investment Management and worked at HR and consulting business Watson Wyatt, before becoming European partner at Mercer Consulting.

3103 HR managing consultant Alli Hooton: “We are a rapidly-growing business that is attracting many more clients, despite the economic downturn. I felt that we could really benefit by having the board strengthened, specifically in the areas where we expect most challenge in the next two years.

“Our accelerated business development plan, and the innovative structure we are developing, is going to create a need for management skills and experience which is hard to find in any single small business.

“We are often called to support our clients as they fill gaps in their own management resources or expertise, without wanting to build these people into their structure on an ongoing basis, so by appointing a non-executive director for the first time we are essentially practising what we preach.

“We were looking for someone with specific knowledge of growing a business, a good understanding of our sector, an ability to coach and mentor our leadership and management teams, and above all a real grasp of what we are trying to build at 3103 HR. I believe we have found this in Myles.”

Mr Mayne added: “HR has often been seen as a necessary but unloved element in a business, primarily concerned with ‘hiring and firing’, absence and sickness management, and possibly some performance monitoring.

“However a new model is emerging – the highly qualified HR professional who is commercially minded and has a strategic, value added role to play within a business. These are the kinds of individuals which 3103 HR provides and by doing so, the company is well ahead of the game.”
