Bristol Zoological Society, the organisation which runs Bristol Zoo Gardens, has appointed James Kitto as head of guest services.
Kitto, pictured, takes up the role at the 180-year-old zoo, bringing with him almost 20 years of management experience as a former theatre manager at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Wales Millennium Centre and Symphony Hall.
He will be responsible for the provision of guest services across the Society, managing a team responsible for the public areas of both the zoo in Clifton and Wild Place Project – the 55-hectare family attraction north of Bristol – as well as the bookings and membership teams, car park teams, and other staff dealing with guests.
He will also play a key role in the development and training of his team, ensuring top customer service is always a key priority.
James said: “I’ll be working with some amazing, knowledgeable and inspiring people who are deeply passionate about the work they do. We have such a diverse range of guests, from first-time visitors to members who have been visiting us for many years. It never ceases to amaze me the affection that people have for our attractions.
“Being a keen gardener I have always loved the gardens at the zoo. I’ve had many picnics by the herbaceous border with my family before I started working here, so to be able to wander freely around the gardens on a daily basis is amazing – I have to pinch myself from time to time.”
Bristol Zoological Society director of commercial operations Wendy Walton added: “James brings with him a wealth of experience, which I know will prove to be invaluable. He is managing a highly experienced team, who all strive to ensure the smooth running of our attractions. It’s great to have James on board.”
