Each week Bristol Business News lets a prominent member of the area’s business community have the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

This week Mel Bound, founder of This Mum Runs, answers our 10 questions:

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? My family will tell you I am a total nightmare with films. No matter how good they are, I always fall asleep! I actually got half way through ‘Amy’ last week, though and just thought what a sad life she had.

Book you read? I’m in the middle of reading ‘Leading’ by Sir Alex Ferguson and ‘The Virgin Way’ by Richard Branson. It’s fascinating how such different organisations and individuals can share so many ways of doing things. I’m enjoying it and learning at the same time.

Music you bought/downloaded? Foals ‘What Went Down’ and David Bowie’s ‘This Is’ by David Bowie, which it turns out my two-year-old loves rocking out to!

Concert or play you went to? To my husband’s disgust, Will Young at Colston Hall. He was brilliant, though. I also recently watched the brilliant Bedtime Stories at the Arnolfini about a mum trying to balance her work life with the needs of her daughter. Let’s just say there were tears.

Sporting event you attended? I regularly take part in run races. The last one was a crazy mudfest up and down the super steep Kelston Hill at the beginning of Jan. I was weighed down with cheese from Christmas, running full pelt basically down a mud slide, there were times when I feared for my life!

Holiday you went on? We stayed on the South Coast near Portsmouth for a proper old school family holiday visiting some of my husband’s childhood haunts. Crabbing on the pontoon in Warsash was a highlight – it made me seriously consider taking up fishing as a hobby, it’s so relaxing! And the fish and chips from Sea Breeze in Swanage, washed down with a pint of shandy, ranks as one of the best meals I’ve ever experienced.

Restaurant you ate in? Sushi at Yo! Sushi last week. I love that place – the colours, the kitch-ness, the yummy food and the crazy buzzers that go off when you want something all add to the atmosphere.

Thing that annoyed you? The nine ‘tried-to-deliver’ cards that appeared on our doormat on the lead up to Christmas. Why can they not just leave it with a neighbor or behind a bin? Admittedly, I’m aware this is definitely a first world problem.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Gogglebox. When I first read about it, I thought the concept was ridiculous. Now it’s my must watch TV, it’s pure genius!

Piece of good advice you were given? This isn’t really advice but I read it and loved it so much I stuck on the mirror in my bedroom: “Finding your purpose can be as simple as asking yourself what you are passionate about, what you love to do and what it is in your life that you can’t stop thinking about. Then you take that one thing that you are really passionate about and find a way to make it a bigger part of your life every day”. Shortly after reading it, I gave up my full-time job to work on This Mum Runs full time.

Mel Bound is the founder of This Mum Runs, a community-led business that helps parents find running groups to fit around their family routine. Having started in Bristol, This Mums Runs is expanding across the South West and aims to enable people get back to running with a Couch-to-5K class.
