Two personal tax managers have joined the 20-strong private client tax services team based at the Bristol office of Smith & Williamson.
Anne Gardner-Thorpe and Karen Press together bring 40 years’ experience to the accountancy, investment management and tax group, which has a growing reputation for its expertise in advising businesses and private clients in Bristol and the South West.
Anne’s background is in law, corporate tax and personal tax. She has worked for ‘big four’ accountants Deloitte as well as HMRC as an inspector, giving her a rare perspective and insight.
She is ideally placed to provide practical advice and support to people with business interests, particularly when it comes to tax strategies and planning. Her specialist area is capital taxes – and she is adept at helping with inquiries and investigations instigated by HMRC.
Karen has worked in personal tax for almost 20 years and has a particular interest in property. She enjoys helping individuals, couples and families to maximise their incomes and advising on their wills and estate planning. Karen joins Smith & Williamson from regional accountancy firm Bishop Fleming’s Bath office.
Smith & Williamson Bristol partner and head of private client tax services, Imogen Hilton-Brown, said: “We are delighted to welcome Anne and Karen to our growing team working alongside colleagues in our financial services and corporate teams to ensure clients benefit from a joined up approach and input from pensions specialists and others who can advise on specific issues, opportunities and challenges.
“Almost everyone is affected to a greater of lesser extent by the Government’s recent raft of tax changes. Business owners, property investors and pension holders are among those looking to make sense of the new rules, not just for compliance reasons but to ensure they get the greatest value for their money, not just for themselves but for future generations.”
