More than 300 people from Bristol’s creative and digital sectors came together to mark Bristol Media 10th birthday – with the party acting as a celebration and showcase of the city’s rich vein of talent.

Some of the best work produced in Bristol over the past decade was captured in an anniversary showreel and showbook, which were both premiered at the event at M Shed.

The showreel and beautifully designed and printed showbook capture the diverse and eclectic nature of much of the output by the city’s filmmakers, animators, design consultancies, photographers and PR agencies.

The party was sponsored by the Bristol office of accountancy, investment management and tax group Smith & Williamson, which has a dedicated creative sector team, and creative marketing agency McCann Bristol.

Bristol Media CEO Fraser Bradshaw, who is also CEO of Bristol creative agency saintnicks, paid tribute to the organisation’s founder and first CEO Mike Bennett of E3 for his entrepreneurial vision and determination to put the city’s creative sector firmly on the map.

Smith & Williamson creative sector team partner Jon Talbot said: “We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Bristol Media on achieving its 10th anniversary, having become one of the UK’s largest forums for collaboration and growth in the creative, media and technology sector.

“Over the last 10 years, this sector has grown significantly, making an increasingly important contribution to Bristol’s economy. We are pleased to have worked closely with many of these entrepreneurs and businesses, providing a wide range of services from accountancy, tax and compliance to personal wealth planning and investment management.

“The introduction of film, television and creative industry tax reliefs in recent years has enabled many of our clients to diversify and expand, while the increasing range of outsourced services we offer, including pay-as-you-go HR support and cloud-based accounting, have given them new freedoms and allowed them to concentrate on their core business.”

Andy Reid, Managing Director of McCann Bristol, said: “The last decade has been a period of great change both in the wider world and here in Bristol. The emergence of digital and social media and the advent of smartphones has completely shifted the way people interact and communicate, which in turn transformed the way in which agencies have approached creative challenges. I can’t wait to see what agencies will look like in another ten years’ time.

“Bristol Media has helped put Bristol on the map during that period of change and continues to be an invaluable part of the creative sector here. We’re very proud to support its 10th Anniversary Showcase, and put forward our best work from the last ten years as we join in celebration with rest of the city’s creative community.”

Bristol Media editor and operations director Caroline Marshall added: “The breadth and quality of the contributions from our members to both the showreel and the showbook have been astonishing.

“This is a real showcase, a chance for us to show off what a fantastically diverse and brilliant creative city Bristol is. Thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute.”
