Bristol-based video marketing agency Hurricane has won a third award for its animation for charity Together for Short Lives.
The team picked up a regional Media Innovation Award last night for its short film We’re Having a Baby in the animation category.
The accolade follows a Digital Entrepreneur Award earlier this month and an Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals Award.

Hurricane made the animation pro bono for Together for Short Lives, the leading UK charity for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
The agency really wanted to capture the heart of what the charity does to raise awareness and inspire people to get involved.
Real-life stories are featured in the film to show how the not-for-profit organisation helps families, giving it an authenticity and a deeper emotional resonance.
At first parents feel adrift when they hear heart-breaking news, but with help from Together for Short Lives, they feel grounded again. The team turned these experiences into a moving script, and along with illustrator and animator Katy Davis brought these stories to life.
Hurricane Media managing director Jon Mowat said: “The film was a real labour of love. After listening to parents who had been helped by this charity, the whole Hurricane team was keen to help raise their profile. We achieved this by doing what we do best – telling stories.”
The animation formed the centre of a wider campaign for Together for Short Lives with the hashtag #HavingaBaby. Hurricane worked with the charity on blogger outreach and online advertising to seed the film with influencers, featuring on sites such as Mumsnet.
The Media Innovation Awards, which celebrate the most innovative use of media and design, and promote the cream of the creative industries in the South West, took place in Plymouth last night.
Chair of judges Stephen Gray said: “The Media Innovation Awards let us recognise the achievements of the incredibly talented companies and individuals behind these exciting, innovative and cutting edge projects.
“On the panel of judges are some of the most highly respected industry leaders, and we were blown away by the creativity and diversity of the entries for this year’s awards. With this amount of high-class talent in the sector, it’s really not hard to see why the UK is one of the most innovative countries in the world.”
Hurricane Media produces video, motion graphics animation and stereoscopic 3D for clients such as Asda, Airbus, Balfour Beatty, BMW, Barclays, Canon, Kraft, Panasonic and Sky.
The agency was founded in 2005 by Jon Mowat with experience of making documentaries for the BBC, and former Endemol producer, creative director John Lanyon.
