Marguarita Tyne, a personal injury partner in law firm Clarke Willmott’s Bristol office, has been appointed to the AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents) specialist clinical negligence panel.
AvMA works with patients injured as a result of medical mistakes and its panel is made up of highly experienced specialists who can demonstrate a wide range of skills and knowledge in this area.
To be appointed, panel members need to have experience in handling cases of maximum severity and must show a track record of excellence over a number of years.
Marguarita, pictured, joined Clarke Willmott in May from Simpson Millar, where she had worked for 15 years.
Since joining Clarke Willmott she has continued to investigate brain injury cases, including those arising as a result of meningitis in childhood. She also acts for a number of clients who have suffered permanent neurological injury as a result of delayed stroke treatment.
She said: “Being appointed to the AvMA panel is an important endorsement. Having acted for victims of medical accidents on a range of difficult and complex cases for many years, I understand the importance of being able to rely on a recognised specialist.
“Next year will see a major consultation on the cost of claims for clinical negligence with the Government proposing to fix costs for ‘low-value’ claims. It is more important than ever that injured patients can have the peace of mind that a highly skilled expert who has been working in this area for a long time will handle their claim.”
Clarke Willmott clinical negligence team manager Kerry Fifield added: “This is a real achievement and we are very pleased that AvMA, with whom we have a long association, has appointed Marguarita to their panel.
“The team is going from strength to strength with very impressive rankings for the clinical negligence team achieved in this year’s Legal 500 and Chambers guides.”
