Businesses are being encouraged to support Bristol’s unique Regional Youth Music Awards (RYMA), which take place next week.
The awards, to be presented at an ‘Oscars’-style celebration next Friday, showcase the rich vein of musical talent among Bristol’s young people.
They are staged by Bristol’s own soul diva – singer, broadcaster, teacher and community figure Kizzy Morrell, whose Studio 7 Arts Academy has a strong track record of nurturing home-grown talent.
This year’s RYMA theme is ‘Venetian Carnival’ and the event will ensure that young and talented musicians from Bristol’s diverse communities have an opportunity to be publically recognised for their achievements and hard work.
Businesses can support the glamorous event, which includes a three-course dinner, by booking tickets or by sponsoring a young performer.
Hosts for RYMA will be Pat Hart & Sherrie Eugene-Hart from Bristol community radio station BCFM, with headline performances from Sophia May, Da Fuchaman, Faith Beko and Jethro Sheeran.
The night will also feature a fashion show presented by TMB House of Walladeen.
Guests will include the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Claire Campion-Smith, Mayor George Ferguson and many of the ‘great and good’ from Bristol’s music industry and business community.
George Ferguson said: “Kizzy Morrell is a great ambassador for youth music in Bristol. Her energy, enthusiasm and commitment in helping young people find their ‘place in life’ and in ‘society’ through music and performance is renowned.
“I have known Kizzy for a number of years and I wholeheartedly support this event. Many people in the community have come together to make this happen and I look forward to joining Kizzy and the young people of Studio 7 on the night.”
The event, which is approaching a sell-out, takes place next Friday, November 27, at the Passenger Shed, Temple Meads.
Studio 7 Academy is a voluntary organisation that runs successful music development sessions for young people age eight to 25 years. It has supported several local artists to gain national recognition including features on TV show X Factor. www.studio-7.org.uk
