Malachy McReynolds, the former managing director of Bristol-based chocolate manufacturer Elizabeth Shaw, has stepped down as chief executive of not-for-profit organisation WE Care & Repair.

He will be succeeded by Kevin Snowball, who joins from Bristol-based Simplyhealth’s Independent Living division, where he spent more than seven years as managing director.

St Philips-based WE Care & Repair provides commissioned services to Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset and North Somerset councils aimed at ensuring that older and disabled people can remain living in their own homes, adapted and maintained to meet their particular needs.

Mr McReynolds, pictured, spent 12 years at Elizabeth Shaw. He led a buyout in 2000, followed by its sale to Icelandic company Noi Sirius in 2006, staying on as managing director until 2012.

He was CBI South West regional chair between 2006 and 2008 and was a member of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) board until June this year.

He also served as president of both the UK and the European trade bodies for the confectionery and biscuit industry.

Earlier this year he was appointed chair of South West Investment Group Capital, the fund holder for a significant European regional development SME loan portfolio in the South West.

He continues in the post as new 2014-2020 European funding programmes are rolled out across the region.

Mr McReynolds said: “Although I am stepping down from a full-time executive role, I am delighted to be continuing to play a part in the development of the SME sector across the wider South West area.

“Funding for smaller businesses remains a concern for us all as we seek to kick start the engine of growth that this sector represents.”
