Integrated communications agency McCann Bristol has recruited Paul Cottrell, a former creative director from Ogilvy in Melbourne.

Paul, pictured, joins the agency following a period of double digit growth and a doubling of the head count in 2014.

His agency career spans 20 years and two continents. In that time he has picked up numerous industry accolades including D&AD, Creative Circle, Caxton, Cannes Lion, Folio and MADC awards.

McCann Bristol’s client roster includes Cathay Pacific, Goodyear, Pink Lady Apples, Tenderstem, Westons Cider and The Mall at Cribbs Causeway.

Paul said: “I’ve been hired to help take McCann Bristol to the next level creatively, providing a strong creative offer for clients looking for an alternative to London. Bristol has a fantastic reputation for creativity both nationally and internationally and the city is going from strength to strength”.

Andy Reid, managing director at McCann Bristol, added: “Paul is a creative heavy weight with a portfolio that speaks for itself, we’re excited to have him on board and importantly he buys into the collective ethos and vision for the agency”.

“Paul is coming into a creative team on an upward trajectory and he succeeds Julian Burrett who has done a fantastic job in transforming the creative department.”

Paul’s career started in London where he was art director at Kelly Weedon Shute and later Senior Group Head at Ogilvy & Mather, where he worked on leading blue-chip clients including Observer Newspaper, Ford Cars, GSK and The Samaritans Charity.

In 2003, Paul moved to Australia, where he spent three years in Sydney at FNL Communications, Whybin TBWA and Clemenger BBDO. He worked on award-winning campaigns such as re-launching Sony and created campaigns for leading brands such as Pepsi, PlayStation, AAPT (telecoms), Visa, Masterfoods and Allianz Insurance.

He then spent eight years in Melbourne, working for a number of agencies including Patts Y&R, Publicis Mojo, and latterly at Ogilvy working as creative director on the Bank of Melbourne account. Highlights included re-launching Honda with Stephen Fry for Draft FCB.
