Avonmouth specialist construction group Churngold is urging charities and community organisations to apply for funding to support projects that maintain or improve public spaces and buildings for community use.
Churngold’s set up its Environment Fund in 1997 to help small groups in Bristol, North and South Somerset, Bath and South Gloucestershire to enhance community spaces and protect the environment. So far more than £200,000 has been distributed to local causes, ranging from cycle paths, village greens and public playgrounds to village halls and community gardens.
Grants worth £30,000 will be awarded this year in amounts from £1,000 to £5,000. 
Churngold, which specialises in construction, remediation, recycling and building services, was established in Bristol in 1983. As well as its headquarters in Avonmouth, it has satellite offices in Walsall and Newport.
Churngold chairman Ross Ancell said: “We set the fund up specifically to benefit small local voluntary and community organisations where a modest amount of money can make a big difference.
“As a company with its roots in this area, we wanted grants to support local communities and bring local people together, specifically improving recreational spaces and buildings and encouraging greater sustainability.”
The fund is managed by Quartet Community Foundation, which manages funds of behalf of individuals, companies, charitable trusts and statutory agencies.
