Bristol Airport says it anticipates business as usual despite the approach of an ash cloud from the Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland.
Airport spokesman James Gore said: “This is really an airline issue but none of them has said they expect any impact on their schedules. If there is a change, we will do our best to tell our customers through our website.”
The ash cloud is expected to reach the UK by the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to the Met Office and although this does not necessarily mean there will be airspace closures it makes flight disruption more likely, it said.
Subject to changing weather patterns, the cloud is predicted to affect parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
New routes
Meanwhile Bristol Airport expects to announce shortly the introduction of new routes to Germany, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe in 2012. It follows the airport’s discussions with as many as 20 airlines at the annual industry European routes conference held earlier this month in Sardinia.
