Bristol city councillor and former Avon and Somerset Police Authority member Pete Levy has joined The Restore Trust in a business development role.
The trust was formed in 2010 to provide skills training for long-term unemployed and ex-offenders. 
Somerset-born Pete, pictured, who is due to stand down next month after representing the Horfield ward since May 2010, will work alongside its chief executive Suzanne Thompson to build on the established success of the organisation.
Based in Horfield, the organisation stages week-long training programmes in Bristol and Somerset in construction skills, catering and hospitality, customer service and IT to help clients gain employment.
It is also working in partnership with third parties to provide affordable housing options in the South West.
Pete has a policing background, both constabulary and Royal Military, and has worked in TV production, communication and media. He has also been involved with a number of community interest and not-for-profit organisations.
He said: “I’m very excited to step into a role which feels like a natural progression from some of the work I was involved in in public service, supporting communities at grassroots level.
“I have followed the progress of The Restore Trust since it was founded as an excellent example of a not-for-profit service deliverer that can make a real contribution to rehabilitation through practical support.”
