Bristol estate agent Holbrook Moran has become the first to accept Bristol Pounds in a move that means tenants can now pay their rent in the pioneering local currency.
Holbrook Moran will also accept payment in Bristol Pounds for fees, bringing closer the day when residents and businesses will be able to pay entirely in Bristol Pounds for all aspects of buying a house.
Tobie Holbrook, owner of Holbrook Moran, which operates from two branches in the Redfield and Fishponds areas, said: “As a local business we fully support the aims and objectives of the Bristol Pound and are very proud to be able to help local people pay for yet another key service, this time housing, in our local currency.” 
Mr Holbrook, a property developer and café proprietor, already supported the Bristol Pound by accepting it at his four Grounded Cafés.
Bristol Pound co-director Ciaran Mundy said: “Being able to add Holbrook Moran to our list of participating businesses is an important milestone for the Bristol Pound, helping us to achieve our long-term goal of being able to use the currency across all key areas of personal and business spending.”
The announcement comes two months after the Bristol Pound celebrated its first-year anniversary, and follows other recent high-profile successes for the local currency.
Bristol Pounds can now be used to pay for a range of key everyday products and services such as hiring an accountant and tradespeople and travelling on the city’s buses. Residents will soon be able to pay their council tax in Bristol Pounds.
It is the UK's first city wide local currency, the first to have electronic accounts managed by a regulated financial institution, and the first that can be used to pay some local taxes.
