West business leaders are being given the chance to see behind the scenes of the region’s largest TV and film studio, The Bottle Yard in Bristol.
The visit on September 5 is organised by the Institute of Directors (IoD) and Bristol Media and reflects the growing importance of the creative industries to the region.
Bristol has become one of the most sought after locations for world-class film and TV production in recent years – and The Bottle Yard, as the region’s largest dedicated film and TV production space, has played a key role in its development.
The studio, a former winery and bottling plant in Hengrove, has 300,000 sq ft of film and television production space at a time when it is at a premium in the UK.
Recent productions have included Sky TV sitcom Trollied and the hugely-successful BBC drama Frankie, which also had location shots filmed in and around Bristol.
IoD Bristol branch chairman Tom McCarthy said: “The creative services industry is booming in the South West and the Bottle Yard is one of many success stories.
“It offers a flexible and cost-effective location outside London and has strengthened the region’s growing reputation as a leading production hub, stimulating the local industry and creating both employment and economic benefits.”
The visit is designed as an interactive tour with prosthetics and makeup artists on hand and a chance to actually go behind the lens for some practical experience.
