First-hand expert advice for company directors on how to develop and grow their businesses in China will be available at a major Bristol conference.
Guest speakers will be drawn from UKTI – the Government’s trade-boosting organisation – the China-Britain Business Council, Institute of Exports, Bristol China Partnership, University of the West of England and directors of Bristol and South West businesses.
The event will also act as a platform for the Institute of Directors (IoD) and UKTI to launch its trade mission to Bristol’s sister city of Guangzhou in October next year.
The China Trade Conference, which is being staged by the IoD Bristol branch, is hosted by HSBC on September 29 at the bank’s offices in Temple Quay.
IoD committee member Richard Lowe, who is organising the conference and mission, said: “The conference will inspire confidence and provide directors considering expansion with an understanding of China’s market potential, and what preparation and consideration needs to be made before jumping on the plane.
“We want to be able to guide delegates to the support and funding available to ensure their business is ready before it takes its first steps into the Chinese market.”
Bristol City Council leader Barbara Janke added: “It is absolutely right that we raise Bristol’s profile in China and help our companies increase exports to this vital economic market. Some of our larger companies are already seizing these opportunities, our challenge is to spread the word more widely in the business community. This event is a good opportunity to do this and set out the help available to them.”
Tom McCarthy, Chairman of IoD Bristol, added: “We are confident this will be a successful event as interest in foreign markets is currently at an all-time high, especially China which is the world’s fastest growing economy in the world.”
The event will be between 12pm and 5pm. Prices for IoD members and guests are £34 and £42 for non-members.
