A trade delegation of young Bristol professionals is to travel to China later this year following a trip to Beijing by Bristol Junior Chamber president Tom Selway and its chair of policy and influence, Darren Jones.

They represented Bristol and the South West at an official “contact making” visit to the Chinese capital and won agreement from key party officials to establish reciprocal trade delegations for young business professionals.

Mr Selway said:  “We had very productive meetings with key representatives in Bristol’s sister city Guangzhou and with the secretary general of the China Entrepreneurs' Association. We also met officials from Tainjin, a city very similar to Bristol. All three are very keen to build further relations with the region, both culturally and professionally.”

Mr Jones added: “It’s vital for businesses in Bristol that either do or want to do business in China to understand the differences in business culture and procedure in order to add value to their own clients, customers and shareholders. The junior chamber is now in a position to be able to offer this due to our connections in China, which is a great opportunity for Bristol business.”

The chamber is now inviting young professionals (aged under 40) and their businesses with an interest in China to make contact.  The visit could coincide with the annual Mayor and Bristol and South West trade delegation to Guangzhou and beyond in late November which is being organised by the China-Britain Business Council and the Bristol China Partnership.
