Bristol marketing consultancy founder Peter Kane has been shortlisted in the Young Director of the Year category in the Institute of Directors (IoD) South West Director Awards.
Peter founded The BD Consultancy in 2008 and today employs seven people. The business advises five of the top 15 global accountancy firms.
Peter started his career with Reed Executive before going on to become regional head of business development with accountancy giant Deloitte for three years where he helped the firm reach record market share and increase fee income from key accounts by over 300%.
He set up The BD Consultancy in the belief that many aspects of sales and marketing are more effective outsourced and can deliver better value and more impactful results. Turnover and profits have subsequently increased steadily despite the difficult economic climate.
Peter said: “The last five years have been tough for most businesses, but the weird thing is, that has helped us grow. It means everyone is watching their pennies, including us, so we only spend where we are really confident of returns – and our clients like that since they too are looking for more results and less fat.
“This award would be a fitting recognition of the hard work we have put in over the past 36 months. My aim in the next five years is to be offering exciting and rewarding work to more than 50 people, and take The BD Consultancy to overseas clients.”
If successful, Peter and other regional award winners will go on to compete for the national awards in the autumn.
The South West’s IoD Director of the Year Awards 2013 seeks to highlight outstanding business people.
They aim to celebrate achievements across the region, bring all parts of the enterprise community together and focus UK-wide attention on South West success.
The categories include: Director, Young Director (open to directors under the age of 42 who can point to outstanding achievements at work in the previous 12 months), Corporate Responsibility and Director Development Award.
A panel of experts will judge entries and the winners will be announced at a dinner on June 6 at Bristol’s Marriott Royal Hotel, sponsored by Bristol law firm Burges Salmon.
IoD South West chairman Richard Ayre said: “There’s a great deal of expertise and excellence among leaders and this will help steer the South West and the UK away from these difficult economic times.
“It’s wonderful to celebrate the best in leadership in this region and it’s fabulous to then see our winners compete with the UK’s best for national honours.”
