Bristol business woman Jaya Chakrabarti has been nominated in the Asian Women Achievement of 2013 awards.
Jaya, founder and managing director of digital communication agency Nameless,pictured, has been shortlisted in the best entrepreneur category. Already known in business circles as a key figure in Bristol’s creative sector, she gained a public profile last year when she founded and chaired the Yes campaign for the Bristol mayor referendum.
The Asian Women of Achievement Awards, co-founded by food guru and entrepreneur Pinky Lilani in 1999, were conceived to celebrate the often unsung Asian heroines of British life in fields as diverse as business, entrepreneurship and social a
nd humanitarian work.
The Entrepreneur award celebrates attributes such as courage and risk in establishing a venture, positive impact of its market and evidence of ambition, energy, skill and vision.
Jaya represents the creative industries on the Initiative Advisory and Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Initiative Board.
After the success of the Yes campaign in the Bristol mayor referendum, – it was the only city in the country to vote in favour of an elected mayor – Jaya and her board set up Bristol Manifesto, a campaign to collect the views and wishes of the people of Bristol via online surveys, to provide mayoral candidates with sufficient information on what changes people wanted to see in the City.
Jaya is also a panel member for Ofcom consumer panel and the Ofcom Advisory Committee on Older and Disabled People.
The awards, whose patrons are Cherie Blair and HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan, take place on May 15 at the Hilton Hotel in London’s Park Lane.
