Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO’s Bristol office has raised £10,250 for local charity Penny Brohn Cancer Care – surpassing its 2012 target of £10,000.
The money will fund visits by 300 people with cancer to the charity’s new weekly treatment support clinic, which helps those preparing for, undergoing or recovering from chemotherapy.
BDO Bristol offers all staff six paid working days a year for community volunteering projects and charity fundraising. Staff took part in a variety of activities for Penny Brohn Cancer Care, with eight riding 900 miles from John o’ Groats to Land’s End, a spinathon at Cabot Circus when staff cycled 900-plus miles in a day on static bikes, participation in the annual Bristol Dragon Boat race and 2012 Chew Valley Bed Race, as well as numerous cake bake sales and dress down days in the office.
Penny Brohn Cancer Care events and corporate manager Amy Cason said: “We are very grateful to all the team at BDO Bristol for their fantastic support. The whole office has been absolutely brilliant, challenging themselves to raise an amazing sum of money in different ways to help people living with cancer.”
BDO Bristol partner Graham Randal said: “Penny Brohn Cancer Care provides an excellent support system for people with cancer in the greater Bristol area. We hope the proceeds raised will go a long way towards assisting with the valuable work the charity is doing in the local community.”
Pill-based Penny Brohn Cancer Care was established in 1980 and provides specialist support including lifestyle advice, self-help techniques, counselling and complementary therapies, working alongside medical treatment, to people living with cancer and to their supporters.
