Bristol-based recycling company Boomeco, which specialises in the reuse and recycling of wood and black bag waste, has invested around £3m in its Avonmouth site.
The move has strengthened its recycling and recovery services with highly-specialised equipment including a wood shredder, an automatic baling press and new vehicles to transport the waste securely to the nearby port for export to Europe. 
The company has also spent half a million pounds on improving operations, laying new concrete flooring and creating a second weighbridge at the site, which it has also bought.
Boomeco founder Oliver Latter said the investment meant the firm now offered first-class recycling and recovery facilities at Avonmouth which diverted more waste from landfill.
“We want to become an exemplary recycling business in Bristol and ensure that we are contributing to Bristol’s green credentials, particularly for the city’s year as European Green Capital in 2015,” he said.
“The purchase of the site shows our long-term commitment to the area. We are already employing 18 people and we have ambitious growth plans for the business.”
Boomeco was founded in 2001 and is a UK market leader in recycling wood products. It also specialises in exporting refuse derived fuel (RDF), which is produced by sorting, shredding and baling solid waste – usually non-recyclable black bag waste – and saving the waste from being sent to landfill.
Earlier this year, the company secured a six-year contract with North Somerset Council to process 7,000 tonnes of refuse a year, saving local taxpayers £400,000 every year in landfill costs and providing a sustainable solution for the waste.
